Living Better Stories

6 Words That Will Change Your Story

I’m always looking for good bits of advice. A secret way to make my story better.

A few weeks ago at Catalyst, Bob Goff told me the only two things I need to know to live an incredible story.

Loving and Doing.

Loving

Love is the “why” of our story. What we do is determined by what we love.

Who spends several hundred dollars on football tickets and then decorates their own body in ways that if they were seen anywhere but a stadium might be arrested, or at the very least considered insane? People who love football.

Who camps out overnight to wait in line for a new phone? People who love gadgets made by Apple.

Who wakes up at 4:30am to write? People who love to tell stories.

Loving comes naturally to us. We all love something.

But better stories begin when we begin to love better things.

(If you like that sentence, considering tweeting it.)

Doing

When we choose to love, the impossible becomes doable.

Even when that doing is incredibly difficult. Even when that doing is impractical. Even when that doing will require us to give and to give and to give.

Even when that doing asks us to give away our life.

Not sure what you love in your life? Take a look at your actions.

  • Where do you spend your time?
  • On what do you spend your money?
  • What occupies your thoughts?
  • What did you do this past weekend?

The Best Stories

According to Bob, the formula for a better story is very simple.

Love God. Love people. Do stuff.

What do you love? What are you doing about it?
