The First Step to Anywhere

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

Lao Tzu

According to walkingsite.com, the average step by an adult is 2.5 feet long. Using their numbers, it takes 2,315 steps to walk one mile.

Need to go 5 miles? 11,575 steps.

Want to go 100 miles? 231,500 steps.

But if you really want to do something big, like walk 1,000 miles, 2,315,000 steps.

How far you choose to walk might depend on what awaits you at the end of the destination. Maybe 5 miles is enough for you. Maybe the 5 mile destination will satisfy.

But I hope that some of you choose the 1,000 mile journey.

Whatever destination you choose, the journey begins in the same manner. It starts with you starting. It begins with the first step.

Perhaps it is important to know where you want to go. Even more important, though, is actually beginning.

Have you started? Did you take a step today?
